Title: Corpus Linguistic Applications from an Interdisciplinary Perspective
 
Abstract:
The topic of human interaction offers a vast and exciting research area for the field of social
sciences. When examined through the lenses of sociology, psychology or interdisciplinary
perspectives, linguistic reflections may comprise of an important part of the data analysis. The
approaches and methods of how to systematically bring out linguistic reflections from a naturally
used, representative language sample and interpret the reflections to address various research
questions, are of great use and interest to corpus linguistics scholars. In this session, two corpus
linguistic studies will be presented in order to illustrate how a range of research questions could
be examined with corpus linguistic approaches and methods. The first study demonstrates how to
scrutinize a conceptual phrase intergenerational solidarity. The second study is an application of
corpus linguistics and Critical Discourse Analysis to investigate discourse of violence against
women.
