Academic Honesty

Academic honesty, in its broadest definition, refers to acknowledging the sources clearly for any kind of information taken from other people. As ideas and words are seen as intellectual property belonging to the person who first thought and used them, all members of academic community are expected to acknowledge the sources if they want to borrow from or refer to the work of another person.

Boğaziçi University’s Foreign Language Education Department assumes as a basic and minimum standard of conduct in academic matters that students be honest and that they submit for credit only the products of their own efforts. Academic honesty also requires that students refrain from any and all forms of dishonorable or unethical conduct related to their academic work such as plagiarism.
